Nourishment for the Spirit
by Maximus inmy observation is that persons who 1) heal/adjust the most rapidly from their jw experience and 2) seem to have the most joy in life are those who read, read, read, in pursuit of what i call nourishment for the spirit.
i've really enjoy the pithy aphorisms you use here, which suggests you've distilled some wisdom from somewhere.
i'm going to ask your help in this thread.

Good question Maximus!
One book that I found absolutely engrossing was The 48 Laws of Power,
by Robert Greene. It lays out his 48 laws to follow when playing power games. It is a great mix of psychology, political science, philosphy and history; it gives historical examples used by great historical figures and details their obsevances and transgressions of the laws.To wit: Law #27 - "Prey on people's need to belive in something to create a cultlike following." The similarities between his 5 step cult creation method and the WTS were very, very EERIE.

Making a Difference!
by Amazing insome may ask themselves why they post on forums such as this one.
they may wonder what compels them to do so.
you may wonder what causes others to keep at this so frequently.

Hello all,
I must 'fess up that the guy Amazing was talking about at the conference was me. I hafta say that it was an enriching experience sitting down for breakfast with some prominent members of the ex-JW crowd. It's unbelievable how deep the issues surrounding the WTS are.
Since I was never baptized, therefore never forced to take part in the "religion" that enslaved many of the people on this board, I cannot say for one second that I fully understand what you have all gone through. On the other hand, being as close as I was to "going all the way" and being on this board I feel GREAT relief that I listened to my intuition and got the hell out.
It is a great thing that everyone shares their experiences here. How can anyone, who has gone through this and lived to tell the tale, in good conscience allow the WTS to continue their scandalous ways and inflict the same pain on innumerable, less informed people? If no one speaks out, if no one fights to expose the WTS as a fraud and a cult, then the resposibility is on OUR heads for keeping silent and never allowing those blinded by the Empire the chance to see the "truth." If we don't do it, then (according to the late, great Obi-Wan Kenobi...)
"the Emperor has already won."

Hello Had Enough!
Thanks for the help and the warm welcome. I think I'll go check it out, seeing as though it's about a 2 minute drive from where I live.
I've really enjoyed reading of the experiences of the people on this board, and I plan to stick around and contribute where I can.
Thank again, Jer.

Although I was never baptized, I agreed to a bible study (that lasted 8 months) because a girl I had a crush on in high school spoke so glowingly of the religion. I hate love.

Hi everyone....
by Jeremy Bravo inas i sit in front of my computer in a drunken stupor wondering what might have been, i felt i had to post my story to those who might truly understand what i am going through.. i am a newbie here, but have been lurking around for the last few weeks.
i am 25 years old, from ontario, and totally heartbroken.. to give you some background, back in 1998, i studied with the witnesses because some friends of mine, whom i believe to be honest and sincere people, gave me (i thought at the time) some good advice to start a book study.
i did, and i really enjoyed it because i felt they presented everything factually and had a strong interpretation of the scriptures (i'm a facts man, you see).

Hello again and thank you one and all for the help!!
There are too many people to mention individually this time, like I did before. Rest assured that I appreciate all that has been offered and I will reflect on every single piece of the excellent advice that I have been given. All I can say is thank you and I will certainly stick around for a while and enjoy the company of this forum.
The big reason why I posted here and not somewhere else is that it is an incredibly diverse group of people, from all backgrounds and affilliations. This can only maximize my exposure to new ideas and people, as this thread has evidenced. It also helps that everyone here seems very open-minded and accepting of one another.
Glad to meet you all and I hope to kept in contact!

Missed a couple...
Unclebruce:
This weekend is the annual party weekend at my roomie's parents cottage. Oh yeah am I ever gonna let it all out. What I'm afraid of is getting all messed up and bawling in the middle of the festivities.
Scorpion:
What you described is the sick feeling that I get; that now matter what, there's nothing I can do to fix this situation because of the cult influence. I am just so sad that there's this awful shadow hanging over our heads and there's nothign in the world I can do about it.

Hello,
It's nice to meet all of you, and thank you for your support.
First off, I gotta say I'm not going off the deep end or anything. Just feeling so blue I'm purple.
Hippikon/wasasister/cautious:
Moving on is what I have to resign myself to do. Everyone I've talked to so far has given me similar advice, but none of them can help me on the level that this forum can (re: JW's). I just have this overbearing need for closure.
AlanF:
I am in no way trying to get in a pissing contest with you, but although short, it was the best time of my life. I cannot remember a time when I felt so alive and special.
Roamingfeline:
I have been going to martial arts practices again hardcore. Twice since Monday and one more tomorrow. While in the relationship, I missed many of them because I wanted to be with my girl. I have found that it is the best therapy for me. If I can't be happy, might as well make myself dangerous enough whip people who light my (presently) short fuse. hehe.
Flip:
Moosehead all the way, buddy. I was especially pissed to see the Heritage/Excellence/Tradition/Commitment labels discontinued. My favourite was Excellence. And yeah, you're right, I am smack dab in the middle of it and there's no going back.
Thanks again everyone,
